Finding your belief through Personal Experiences and Connection.

I personally feel one of the key aspects to fitting in in a belief is finding which you personally connect with.

And i easily can see one of the only ways a person converts is if they see why the belief connects with them, and why they think they belong in the group. Thats why i think you cant prove or disprove a deity: You can only do so for yourself.

An Intro to Hellenic Polytheism

Ok,lets see. One of the things ive encountered on this forum and around the internet is a general misunderstanding or lack of a definition of what Hellenic Polytheism is. So, i will take some time to give an intro.

Hellenic Polytheism, to sum it up, is a following of the ancient Greek religion. The term itself is an umbrella term: There are different varying practices that different Hellenic Polytheists incorporate into their beliefs. There are Reconstructionists, who desire to set up and revive the Greek religion, and then there are several others, who may incorporate some ideals of Wicca,Astrology, and even from other religions.

Of course, there are tighter and looser grasps on solid ideas of Hellenic Polytheism by Hellenic Polytheists.

Some may stick to belief in the Hellenic Gods.

Several i know online will have Deities they feel most connected with, and balance their beliefs and devotions mainly on those deities.

There is even a takeoff of Monotheism: For instance, some may worship and devote themselves to one of the deities. Its not to say they deny the others, it is just a matter of their personal connection beliefs and devotions.

So, one may ask if there is any texts or basis of information on the ancient Greek religion. I would say they come primarily from ancient Greek philosophical and literary works: Such as Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. Or other similar works such as Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

Then again, it depends on the beliefs of the many branches of Hellenic Polytheism.

Advice for Admitting Belief

I find it best when telling others my belief in Hellenic Polytheism, or when asked to explain Hellenic Polytheism. to rather than saying “I believe in Zeus” or” I Believe in the Greek Gods”, which usually triggers a reaction like a person walking upon a jackpot of nitrus oxide.

I would recommend saying things like “Its a following of polytheistic traditions of the ancient world”. you can include Greece instead of world if you like, or its in context.

Always, analyze context and the person youre speaking too when you explain something to them, especially beliefs, and doubly especially ones they may dislike or disagree with.
